Now in an image-dominated world such as ours, analysing the content of images becomes a crucial issue ¿ with particular respect to their later retrieval.
As it is very well known, though, the attempt to clearly define the content of an image must always come across a series of obstacles that are not normally posed by text documents.
Dr. Agustín Lacruz thus starts her book with a painstakingly detailed discussion of the theoretical foundations on which a given image may be identified as a still image; all the problems related to such a conceptual operation are likewise explored.
She then proceeds to lay out a method for defining a detailed algorithm ¿ whose patterns are also specified ¿ allowing for the precise definition of the content of images.
The investigations findings are finally applied to four practical case-studies taken from Francisco de Goya¿s works.
Dr. Agustín Lacruz¿s book is, to sum up, a comprehensive piece of research which is bound to make a relevant contribution not only to the theory of Visual Content Analysis, but also to the latter¿s practical applications in all those environments where still images do play a relevant role.
