The Caracas-based National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (Asamblea Nacional de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela) is the nation's highest legislative body.
The National Assembly legislates in matters of national interest, and authorizes the President of the Republic to issue executive orders having the force of law by such enabling acts. It does also authorize the appointment of the Republic's Attorney-General (Fiscal General de la República), as well as that of the Justices who sit in the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (Tribunal Supremo), that of the People's Defender (Defensor del Pueblo), and - finally - that of the members of the National Electoral Council (Consejo Nacional Electoral). The National Assembly likewise approves by law the enactment of all international treaties and agreements entered into by the Republic's Government; it duly authorizes public officials to accept honours from foreign governments too.
The National Assembly has recently agreed to implement Archivo 3000 W into its different Archives - the Legislative Archive, the Administrative Archive, and the Historical Archive as well; this is an innovative 3000 Informatica & La Casa del Software joint venture which aims at merging all three Archives.
